Hurricane Sandy: Fees Waived, Discounts Given To Customers In Storm's Path

Good news during a hurricane is rare. But as Hurricane Sandy makes its way up the East Coast, a number of business are waiving fees and offering discounts to help customers brave the storm.

Here's a round up of fees that are being waived:

-- Airlines like United are allowing travelers to change their flights without charge [CNN]

-- JPMorgan Chase & Co., is waiving late-payment fees for customers in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C. [Bloomberg Businessweek]

-- A number of cities such as Philadelphia and New York, as well as some communities in New Jersey, are waiving street parking fees [NBC, NYC.gov, NJ.com]

Here's a list of businesses that are offering free or discounted service:

-- The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times have temporarily taken down their paywalls so readers can follow storm news for free [Poynter]

-- Sirius XM Radio is offering listeners free Hurricane Sandy Coverage from the Weather Channel [Sirius XM Radio]

-- Kimpton hotels are offering 20 percent off normal rates in New York City and Boston locations [ABC News]

-- U-Haul is offering 30 days of free storage for people who might have to evacuate due to the storm [U-Haul]

Some retailers are taking advantage of the storm by offering discounts to shoppers:

-- Disney is offering free shipping on Monday [NYC On The Cheap]

-- Dell is selling its All-In-One Inspiron desktop computer for $399, discounted from $599 [NYC On The Cheap]

-- GapKids is offering 25 percent off online shopping with the promo code GAPKIDDO [NYC On The Cheap]

-- Eddie Bauer is offering 25 percent off online purchases and free shipping on purchases over $49 through Nov. 4th [NYC On The Cheap]
