Sandy is estimated to have caused $20 billion in damage as it tore through the east coast, according to Bloomberg, but how much will that cost you?

Most of the damage from Sandy is from flooding, which many insurance policies don't cover, according to USA Today. But navigating the policies can be confusing; for example flooding as a result of other damage is often covered.

If you only recently purchased homeowners insurance, you're probably out of luck, though. Insurance usually takes about a month to go into effect, The Washington Post reports.
