11/02/2012 12:11 pm ET | Updated Jan 02, 2013

Twelve regional American Red Cross volunteers and staff members have been sent to help with storm relief efforts on the East Coast, officials said Thursday.

Of those, Eleanor Guzik, Albert Chan, David Dorner, Giselle Gomez, David Moodie, Susan Engler and Katie McLaughlin are from Ventura County. They are helping with operations in New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.

Red Cross officials say relief efforts after Sandy will be widespread and expensive. Click here for more information or to donate, or call 800-733-2767.

Contributions also can be sent to a local Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013, or text the word "REDCROSS" to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

The storm has led to the cancellation of hundreds of Red Cross blood drives on the East Coast, officials said. They have asked eligible donors to schedule time to give blood now, especially those living outside areas affected by the storm.
