Weeks after Kate Middleton and Prince William made their Diamond Jubilee royal tour of Asia, William's father Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are following in their very esteemed footsteps, traveling to Papua New Guinea and Australia this weekend in honor of the queen.
Kicking off their two-week tour of the Pacific, Charles and Camilla landed in Papua New Guinea, where the prince made a speech in the local language and the couple was welcomed with a 21-gun salute. They also attended a state dinner and were treated to a bevy of cultural performances.
On Monday they were off to Australia, where the couple posed for one of our favorite photo opps ever: Camilla cradling a baby kangaroo. But despite all the cuteness, it must have been a trying visit: the heat was a sweltering 104 degrees, and Charles reportedly tried out some Aussie slang, commenting, "I'm so jet lagged I feel a few sausages short of a Barbie." The pair also attended a whip-cracking demonstration and took advantage of the heat to show off their casual-cool outfits. (We're especially digging Charles' "Crocodile Dundee"-style brimmed hat.)
In one exchange reported by the Daily Beast, Camilla encountered an adorably stubborn little girl:
Next came a walkabout, with one little girl very hesitant to give up her flowers to Camilla.
"Shall I have them?" Camilla asked her to which the child holding out the bunch replied "nope" while shaking her head.
"That's quite all right," the Duchess told her.
The royal couple will also travel to Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart and Sydney before heading to New Zealand. It's going to be a fun week.
