Chicago may be President Barack Obama's hometown, but that does not mean everyone on his home team, the Chicago Bears, will be casting a vote for Obama on Tuesday. Quarterback Jay Cutler has his bet on the other guy.
On his weekly segment of the "Jay Cutler Show" on WMVP-AM 1000 on Monday, Cutler was asked by co-host Tom Waddle if he would be voting for Romney or Obama.
"That's a touchy subject," Cutler said, according to the Chicago Tribune. "Yeah, I have been following the debates and everything. I do live in Tennessee. I'm voting for Mitt (Romney) this election season."
Waddle said he is also voting for Romney, while co-host Marc Silverman said he is voting for Obama.
But Cutler's Romney endorsement might have something to do with Obama's nod to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers last year, NBC Chicago notes.
Last August, Obama hosted the Super Bowl Champions at the White House. The president, who is a die-hard Bears fan, said that it was difficult seeing Green Bay beat his team and move onto the Super Bowl. He also had a suggestion. “If I’m a part owner … I think we should initiate a trade to send Rodgers down to the Bears,” Obama said.
White House spokesman Adam Abrams clarified why Obama would want Rodgers on the team: “The President understands the value of having a reliable backup QB – and would make it more likely that he could greet the Bears at a similar ceremony at the White House next year,” read a statement to CBS Chicago.
Nonetheless, Cutler is not the only NFL star to endorse Romney.
Last month, Denver Broncos legend John Elway endorsed Romney, citing the candidate's business skills and calling him and Paul Ryan the "comeback team" America needs.
