What led to the demise of Kirstie Alley's first marriage?
On Monday, Alley sat down with "Entertainment Tonight" correspondent Chris Jacobs to discuss her new book "The Art Of Men (I Prefer Mine al Dente)" and opened up about the affair that led to her divorce from first husband, high school sweetheart Bob Alley, in 1977.
The former "Cheers" actress began dating Alley at age 16 and the two married four years later. By age 24, the then-couple had moved across the country from Kansas to California and not long after, Alley met a man named Jake. Although she admits she didn't have sex with him while she was married, she describes the affair of the heart as "worse than cheating" and insists she "destroyed [the] marriage."
"I think it gets worse when you fall in love with someone else when you’re with someone and you’re plotting and you’re planning," Alley said. "What I did do with Jake was I kissed him. In my world –- in Kirstie world -- that meant I had to get a divorce. Because that was unethical and that was infidelity to me."
Six years after the split, Alley remarried actor Parker Stevenson in 1983, but divorced him in 1997 after 14 years of marriage. She recently confessed that during her marriage to Stevenson, she fell in love with Patrick Swayze on the set of the 1985 TV show "North and South." She also admitted to falling for John Travolta while they were filming the 1989 movie "Look Who's Talking," but neither relationship ever became physical.
Alley is certainly not the first celebrity to fool around with someone other than her spouse. Click through the slides below to see which other divorced celebs reportedly had affairs with so-called "regular" people.
Tiger Woods made headlines in late 2009 when reports of a number of extramarital affairs during his marriage to Elin Nordegren surfaced. Among his reported mistresses were several waitresses including Jaimee Grubbs and Mindy Lawton, as well as several porn stars such as Holly Samson and Joslyn James. Woods and Nordegren, who have two children together, finalized their divorce in August 2010 after almost six years of marriage.
In January 2012, Kelsey Grammer admitted to beginning an affair with British flight attendant Kayte Walsh in December 2009 -- six months before he split with "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Camille Grammer. The Grammers' divorce was finalized in February 2011, just two weeks before Kelsey married Walsh. The couple welcomed daughter Faith, their first child together, in July.
In September 2011, Ashton Kutcher spent the weekend of his and Demi Moore's sixth wedding anniversary partying (without her...) in San Diego. He reportedly hooked up with 22-year-old Sara Leal who was working as an administrative assistant at an insurance company at the time. Amid rumors of the affair, Moore announced her plans to divorce him in November 2011, after six years of marriage.
In March 2010, In Touch published an exclusive interview with Michelle "Bombshell" McGee, a tattoo model who allegedly had an 11-month affair with Sandra Bullock's then-husband, Jesse James. As reports of that affair (and others) began to circulate, Bullock filed for divorce in April 2010. The couple's divorce was finalized two months later in June 2010. Bullock and James had adopted a baby son, Louis, who began living with them several months before they announced their split. The actress ultimately finalized the adoption as a single parent.
"The Donald" reportedly cheated on his first wife, Ivana Trump, with Miss Hawaiian Tropic finalist Marla Maples in the late 1980s. The Trumps called off their 12-year marriage in 1990. Trump married Maples in 1993, but they later divorced in 1999. The couple has one child together, daughter Tiffany Trump.
