PHOENIX — The Associated Press has withdrawn its story about an inmate who escaped from an Arizona jail Sunday. The story erroneously stated that the inmate was being held on murder and robbery charges. He is being held on attempted murder and robbery charges.

The AP

Sheriff's spokesman Officer Christopher Hegstrom says Orduno was being housed in the county jail's psychiatric unit and was discovered missing just before 9 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities originally thought Orduno might have been hiding somewhere at the sprawling south Phoenix jail, which also houses Arpaio's famous "tent city" lockup.

But jail personnel have searched the approximately 600,000-square-foot complex – including tent city – and determined Orduno isn't there. Hegstrom says this is the first escape from the facility.

Authorities are asking the public to call authorities if they see Orduno or have any information about him.
