We're not sure if the early sunsets are to account for this week's plethora of dark nail colors, but whatever the reason, we're surprisingly cheerful about the moody nails we've rounded up this Manicure Monday. From rich gemstone shades of peridot and sapphire to artistic reinterpretations of Jean-Michel Basquiat's paintings and the galaxy, going over to the dark side never looked as gorgeous.

  • Jean-Michel Basquiat Nail Art

"One of my favorite things to do is to paint art on my nails, so I thought Jean-Michel Basquiat-inspired nails would be a fun challenge." - Chelsea of Get Nailed

  • Galatic Manicure

"This weekend, I got to work on a super fun 'Galactic Mani' while doing the 31 Day Nail Art Challenge. This look features Cult Nails' I Got Distracted as the base color and several shades by Bettina for the nebula designs. I created it with the sponge technique." - Cristina of Let Them Have Polish

  • L'Oreal The Muse's Attitude

"I chose this dark shade of green in honor of Veterans Day in tribute to my brother and sister-in-law who serve this country as Army soldiers." - Dana Oliver, HuffPost Style beauty editor

  • Color Club Insta-This

"It's a really rich royal blue perfect for any season." - Christina Brown of Love Brown Sugar

  • Nicole by OPI Mer-Maid For Each Other

"Greens are fun for the fall and winter. I wanted a color that represented when sage meets gold -- this is perfect!" Shaina Godfrey, accountant extraordinaire

  • Deborah Lippmann Don't Tell Mama

"It's a deep teal with blue green shimmer that's neither moody nor too winter-y. I love this color because it allows me to have that dark nail look without the staining or seeming goth." Eileen of Miss Whoever You Are

  • Jelly Sandwich Manicure

"This is a 'jelly sandwich' manicure that I created using OPI Don't Touch My Tutu and The Living Daylights. A jelly sandwich design can be created by putting a glitter polish in between layers of a sheer, semi-opaque polish. It makes the glitter look buried, creating a neat and different effect." - Sarah of Chalkboard Nails

  • Essie Haute As Hello

"I've never needed more color." - Anya Strzemien, HuffPost Style and Home editor
