Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) gained some national support on Wednesday in his refusal to concede a loss in Florida's 18th District House race.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus released a statement in support of West's fight for a recount from his 2012 battle against Democrat Patrick Murphy.
“The voters of Florida’s 18th Congressional District deserve to have their ballots counted properly. Congressman Allen West has asked election officials in St. Lucie County to count all early voting ballots, and I strongly urge them to do so in order to erase any existing concerns about irregularities in the tabulation process.
“This is not about any one candidate. It is about preserving and protecting the integrity of our democratic system. Regardless of the outcome, voters have the right to know the process was fair and that the results accurately reflect their will.”
HuffPost Pollster vote tallies show Murphy winning the race by about 2,000 votes.
If things fail to work out for West in Florida, the Sunshine State's neighbor to the north appears to have interest. In an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday, Georgia GOP chairwoman Sue Everhart lauded West as "one of the finest congressmen this country's ever had."
