There's still a week before the Thanksgiving travel crunch, but for those who like to plan ahead, the time to book Christmas flights is already here.
After the mid-point of November, domestic fares for the December holiday season steadily increase, new data from travel search site Kayak shows. Prices for international trips start to spike after the third week of November.
Fares in general for the Christmas season are up about five percent over last year, Kayak says, with the average ticket going for $528 this season.
One way to save money? Traveling on the holiday itself, when Kayak says fares are typically cheaper. Alternatively, fliers can take advantage of great deals on travel between Thanksgiving and Christmas, when seats are usually available for a song.
