Mary Ross, Texas Mother, Furious After Alleged Student Bullying Led To Son's Staph Infection, Surgery

San Antonio mother Mary Ross is looking into legal action against Judson High School after her freshman son was hospitalized following what she calls an act of bullying.

Ross tells KSAT that the incident occurred in a bathroom earlier this month when a bully dumped the 15-year-old boy in a trash can, cutting the student's leg. The cut led to a staph infection, which required the boy to undergo surgery this week.

Surveillance video shows the interaction between the students in the hallway leading up to the alleged act.

“It was one student and there were other students in the bathroom. Because they were egging him on,” Ross said. “It's not the first time my son has been bullied. He was stabbed by a pen a couple of years ago, three times on his chest. I pressed charges. So something needs to be done concerning all these bully incidents."

While a Judson police report confirms that the student did tell authorities about an incident in the restroom, school district spokesperson Steve Linscomb said officials could not verify an attach because no surveillance cameras are installed in school bathrooms. He added that the district will not pursue disciplinary action against the accused.

"What we've determined is that this is a case of horseplay that started out in the hallway, and was carried over into the bathroom area," Linscomb told KSAT. "There was no animosity. There was not any maliciousness going on. It was basically kids that were horseplaying in the bathroom and somebody got hurt."

But Ross is unconvinced and furious. She tells WOAI that she's also considering transferring her son to another school after he returns from the hospital. She also suggests asking retired veterans to serve as hall monitors to prevent acts of violence.

Another incident at a Judson ISD school sparked outrage in June, when a Salinas Elementary School teacher ordered more than 20 kindergartners to line up and hit a classmate accused of being a bully.

The teacher was accused of orchestrating the slugfest after a younger teaching colleague went to her last month seeking suggestions on how to discipline the 6-year-old. She was placed on paid administrative leave and terminated for the following school year.
