Shakira’s hips don’t lie, and neither does her fan base. The Colombian singer may have released her last studio album “Sale el Sol” in 2010, but that didn’t stop fans from choosing her as the “Best Latin Artist” of 2012 at Sunday night’s American Music Awards (AMA).

The Barranquillera was first nominated for the “Best Latin Artist” category in 2001, and in 2005 she became the first female artist to receive the award. This year, Shak beat out crossover Cuban-American rapper Pitbull and Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Don Omar to win her fourth AMA statuette.

Both Pitbull and Don Omar released studio albums in 2012 (Don Omar took home two Latin Grammys for his efforts last Thursday), but unlike the Grammys, AMA nominations are based on the artists’ sales and airplay. And while members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences choose Grammy winners, the public has the last word at the AMAs by voting online for their favorite artist.

Shakira’s growing baby bump may have prevented her from attending and shaking her hips at this year’s AMAs, but Christina Aguilera brought some latin heat to the stage when she performed from her new album “Lotus” in nothing but a black star-studded corset, fishnets, and knee-high boots.

But if the Colombian singer was upset about missing the celebration, it surely wasn’t showing on Wednesday night when the star and her beau Gerard Piqué were seen happily on their way to a showing of “Skyfall” in Barcelona.

Last week, the FC Barcelona soccer player told Catalan radio station RAC1 that Shak would release her next album in early 2013 and hinted at possible tracks on the record. During the interview, the Spanish footballer also revealed details about how the couple is handling the pregnancy.

“Shakira is doing great, she’s six months along. She’s still doing everything and I don’t stop her from doing anything. She even dances! But let her dance, that way she doesn’t think so much,” the Spaniard joked.
