Pam Dwyer, Arizona Woman, Buys $5 Painting At Yard Sale And Discovers JFK Portrait Inside (VIDEO)

One Glendale woman discovered a rare historical treasure at a local yard sale.

According to news station WHDH, when Pam Dwyer picked up a horse picture at a yard sale in Sun City, Ariz. her husband had a hunch that's not all they were getting.

"He says 'I just have this gut feeling that there's something behind that,'" Dwyer told CBS 5 Arizona.

When they removed the picture from the frame, they uncovered a portrait of President John F. Kennedy from 1961.

"I was just in awe of the detail, and the likeness, and that it was an original," she said to CBS.

Dwyer found out that the artist, Carmelo Soraci, was an infamous forger who served time but unleashed a hidden talent while incarcerated. He is best known for his stained glass work done while in prison, reported Fox News.

Art appraiser Lisa Barnes told Dwyer that it's tough to give an exact appraisal because the artist doesn't have a history of sale. However, the historical portrayal of a beloved President will certainly garner attention.

"Someone like the Smithsonian would buy this because of the merit of how he captured and he depicted JFK," Barnes told CBS.

Barnes appraised the portrait at $2,500 to $5,000. Dwyer said she will most likely part with the artwork.

“I would probably sell it. We’ve been on hard times,” she said.
