The NFL provided us with plenty of surprises over the holiday weekend. We saw Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford go wild for 441 yards only to fall to Matt Schaub and the Texans in overtime. Jets signal-caller Mark Sanchez posted solid numbers with 301 passing yards with a touchdown, but his running into the butt of an offensive lineman better told the tale of a 30-point loss to the Patriots.
The biggest surprise is the fact that Alex Smith is no longer leading the 49ers offense despite a fine start to this season and a breakout 2011 campaign that brought the 49ers a win shy of the Super Bowl. Of course, his loss is the gain of the thousands of fantasy managers who picked up the Niners new quarterback off the waiver wire.
