Grenades Found By Children Exploded By Florida Police (VIDEO)

Florida Cops Explode Grenades Found By Kids In Florida Field

A few kids in Christmas, Fla., got a holiday gift that no one would want: Two live grenades.

The children were playing in the backyard on Saturday when they found the first grenade and told a relative, who called deputies, according to the Bradenton Herald.

The man who called the police told WESH-TV that his grandson picked up one of the grenades and brought it to him.

"(The children) didn’t realize what they had. I looked at it and it was a grenade from World War II.," the resident told the station. "I figured it was one of those practice ones, though there might be a hole in it. There wasn’t (a hole), so I took it outside, set it down and called 911."

The Orange County Sheriff's Office bomb squad arrived on the scene and secured the area, even closing the main road for a mile before detonating the object, which left a three-feet-deep hole in the front yard of the man who made the call.

That doesn't mean the neighborhood isn't still a little on edge. The boys who found the grenade have a new playtime rule -- no digging at grandma's house.

No one was injured, but the deputies found a second device a short time after the first blast and blew it up as well.
