A New York family is grieving the loss of their 7-month-old who was killed in a car accident by an alleged drunk driver on Tuesday morning.
Mother of two Denise Hine from Hamburg was driving her 1997 Pontiac Grand Am with baby Baylee M. Dion in the backseat when an SUV crossed the yellow line, crashed into the car and split it in half, WKBW reports. Hine had just dropped her 4-year-old daughter off at school.
The driver, 24-year-old Danielle Kellogg, was charged with DWI and vehicular manslaughter. Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard told The Buffalo News that she will likely face additional charges. It's not the first time that Kellogg has been in trouble for drunk driving -- she was charged with a DWI in 2009, WKBW reports.
Baylee was in a car seat, which reduces an infant's risk of death by 71%, but couldn't survive the crash. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Mom sustained "serious injuries," according to WKBW, but is expected to be OK.
Hine and her husband, Scott Dion, released a statement on Tuesday night:
"She was the best baby on the face of the earth. She was perfect in every way. We are devastated and can't imagine what life will be like without our Baylee."
