The Good Food Awards has announced the crop of 2013 finalists in all nine categories (beer, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, coffee, confections, pickles, preserves and spirits). This is the third year for the awards -- which honor small food companies that fall under criteria for "tasty, authentic and responsibly produced."
The Good Food judges picked 182 finalists out of a pool of 1,366 entries from 31 states. The 100 winners will be announced on January 18, 2013 at a 400-person black tie ceremony in San Francisco's Ferry Building. On January 19, the Good Food Awards will host a marketplace for 15,000 people.
California had the largest number of finalists (43), followed by Oregon (22) and New York (16). Washington, D.C. appears to be an emerging good food hub, with 14 finalists hailing from the mid-Atlantic region. Colorado (10), Washington state (10), Wisconsin (9) and Texas (9) also had strong showings.
