John Derian: Handmade Gifts Perfect For The Holidays

It's definitely on our go-to list during the holidays.

December is upon us, and we are busy looking for fabulous gifts for our friends and family this holiday season. That's why we were particularly excited to read about John Derian's shop in The Wall Street Journal Magazine, because his curated collection of one-of-a-kind items is sure to offer something for everyone on our list.

A decoupage artist himself, he began selling his wares from his East Village studio in 1989, and it has since become a mecca for anyone who appreciates handmade and eclectic pieces with a whimsical flair. Now, in addition to his own work and carefully chosen antiques, his shop represents international artisans that each have a unique style.

Take Hugo Guinness for example, who went to Derian with his simple but animated black ink sketches of utilitarian things, people and animals. Derian obviously has an eye, because after displaying Guinness's pieces, they have become a sensation and even major retailers like J.Crew and Ralph Lauren feature his work in their showrooms.

Derian's shop overflows with an eccentric collection of gifts, stationary, tabletop, textiles and interior design, and it's definitely on our go-to list during the holidays. Head over to The Wall Street Journal Magazine to read more about the stories behind the artisans that sell their incredible wares here and click through the slideshow below to see our favorite items for sale on the shop's website now.
