'Atomic Fallout' Burger Might Be The World's Hottest

Caters News

As far as we know, Guinness World Records doesn't have an entry for "World's Hottest Burger." But if it did, an offering from Atomic Burger in Bristol, U.K. might be the top contender for the title.

Atomic Burger's "Atomic Fallout" burger is topped with a burger sauce made with two of the world's hottest chilles -- the ghost chile and the Scotch bonnet -- and is so spicy that the brave patrons who order are asked to wear protective gloves. In terms of hotness, the burger clocks in at 1 million points on the Scoville scale.

Spiciness aside, the burger is a strange one. Instead of buns, the burger features two deep-fried pizza slices. The portion size is massive, too, with 18 oz. of beef, 18 oz. of cheese and a triple portion of chili fries.

Chowing down on the burger isn't merely a meal, it's an event. Diners who undertake the "Fallout Challenge" are tasked with cleaning their plate in under an hour. Whoever does so successfully wins a special t-shirt and their name added to the "Wall of Flame." Atomic Burger lists its challenge requirements on its website:

  • Be over 18 years old.
  • Be of sound mind and judgement
  • LOVE CHILLI
  • Wear protective gloves
  • Not sue us - Really. You have to sign a waiver form

We have to wonder if the winners in this scenario are also, well, losers. Only a tenth of the 500 people to attempt the challenge saw it through, and they had a nasty case of heartburn when all was said and done.

The Daily Mail writes about an attempt by one hopeful, 23-year-old Jess James Farmer, which wound up unsuccessful. He did, however, have some choice word for describing his experience:

It’s a constant burn, the heat intensifies with every mouthful, each bite is like an inferno in your mouth. Even the chips are hot, covered in chilli flakes and spices but compared to the burger the chips are a relief. It is ridiculously hot but it’s still tasty, the heat doesn’t ruin the other flavours in the burger.

A video from Caters News Agency shows Farmer in all his misery, and is hilarious if you're into schadenfreude. Check it out below.
