Carly Rae Jepsen Best New Artist Snub: 'Call Me Maybe' Singer NOT Among 2013 Grammy Nominees

12/05/2012 10:34 pm ET | Updated Feb 04, 2013

Carly Rae Jepsen did not receive a nomination for Best New Artist during the Grammy Nominations Concert Live! on Wednesday night. Jepsen, who sang the hit Top-40 single "Call Me Maybe" was left off the list of five Best New artist nominees.

In place of Jepsen are Alabama Shakes, fun., Hunter Hayes, The Lumineers and Frank Ocean. As previously reported, Rolling Stone had predicted Ocean, The Lumineers and Hayes as possibilities to grab a nomination, as well as Jepsen.

The 27-year-old Jepsen enjoyed incredible success in 2012 thanks to "Call Me Maybe." As Billboard noted, the song debuted on the Hot 100 in March and hit the top of the chart in June. Per Billboard, "Call Me Maybe" "sold 6.1 million downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, making it the second-biggest-selling digital song of 2012."

Jepsen wasn't the only snub in the Best New Artist category; One Direction was left out as well.

Of course, it wasn't all bad for Carly Rae: "Call Me Maybe" earned a Song of the Year nomination, an award that recognizes the songwriters.

This amalgam of rockers and hip-hop stars perform "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" to honor the late MCA. CBS, however, cuts them off with an rundown of the night's sponsors. Classy.
