Cory Matthews Speaks: 'Girl Meets World' Star Ben Savage Talks 'Poetic' Spinoff

While Danielle Fishel and Rider Strong have been busy penning open letters to fans about the "Boy Meets World" spinoff "Girl Meets World," Ben Savage (Cory Matthews) opened up to Rolling Stone about the series.

"It wasn't that I was resistant [to sign on]," Savage said of taking on the role of grown up Cory, a high school history teacher, in the "Girl Meets World" pilot. "I think it was just a matter of making sure all of us were on the same page about what we were going to do in terms of making the show last another seven years, hopefully.

There were different options around of following our characters or following this. But it just seems a little poetic that we're coming back 13 years later and it's following our daughter's character. I like that concept, because it's very poetic and it's kind of passing it off to the next generation."

Danielle Fishel (Topanga) expressed a similar sentiment on her Tumblr.

"'GMW' is a new show," she wrote. "It isn't 'BMW' brought back to life but in current day ... There were only a few of you but I know why you don’t want 'GMW' to happen and I appreciate that 'BMW' meant enough to you that you don’t want to see its legacy tarnished. I can assure you, we don’t want that either."

"Girl Meets World" will start shooting in February.
