Christina Applegate Reveals Favorite Childhood Outfits, Recurring Nightmare For HuffPost's #nofilter

Posted: Updated:

These days, our knowledge of celebrities too often originates with paparazzi images and snarky quotes by anonymous "insiders." After a while, it's easy to forget that stars are real people. That's why HuffPost Celebrity decided to launch its all-new #nofilter quick-fire question and answer series. Because how well do you know someone until they've shared their guiltiest pleasures?

Christina Applegate understands the challenges of being a working mom, as the star of NBC's "Up All Night" and the mother of adorable 22-month old Sadie Grace. So, the actress has teamed up with FabKids, a new children’s apparel brand and e-commerce site that offers cute, affordable clothes for girls. (Click here to become a member.) In honor of the partnership, Applegate chatted with us about dressing her daughter and the "groovy" childhood outfit she'd like to revive.

Why did you want to work with FabKids?
I just loved the concept of it -- I love the idea that it’s interactive for the parent and for the little girl, and she can choose via her personality these adorable clothes. They were really well-made and age appropriate. We're not trying to dress little girls like little adults and I really like that.

Does Sadie have an appreciation for fashion yet?
She likes picking out things for herself. She always wants to take her clothes off and go pick out something else, so she is getting a sense of what she likes and what she doesn't like. I don't know if it's fashion per se, as it is colors and things that she's attracted to. It's more like, what's the brightest thing that she can put on, and it usually ends up with a tutu over it.

What's one thing from your childhood wardrobe that you wish you could wear now?
I had a gasoline attendant jumper that i really liked. I also have a picture of myself in laceup-front jeans, like hip huggers. I had some high boots on and a tube top and I looked pretty groovy for a little '70s child.

What's your guiltiest pleasure?
My pleasure now comes from when the baby takes a nap and Mom can catch up on her shows, like "Homeland" and "Breaking Bad" -- things that I can't watch when she's around, anything from cable. Those are my guilty pleasures --things that have the F-word in them that have to be turned off for most of the day.

What's the silliest thing you've ever lied about?
I've never lied about my age, because the advent of the Internet means none of us get to anymore. I think when I was a kid, I lied about things that I was in, being an actress. I can't remember what, but I know it was something really ridiculous. I remember really feeling bad about it. But I was little.

If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?

How did you get on death row?
I don't want to be on death row! I would never hurt anbody else. If you could get on death row for stealing someone’s G4 plane, then maybe.

What shows are always on your DVR?
"Homeland" is a big one. "Castle," "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart. Those are the three mainstays.

What's your go-to excuse?
Now everyone’s going to know. "My back doesn't feel good."

What's one thing you do when you're alone that you wouldn't do in front of someone else?
I’m never alone [laughs]. I’d bite my nails.

If failure weren't an option, what's one thing you would do?
Jump out of a plane. Sometime’s failures an option with that, unfortunately.

What did you have for dinner last night?
I had some delightful macrobiotic polenta with beans and red chard.

What's on your nightstand?
At this moment? I've got a thermometer, because I just got over being sick, a coaster and a water bottle.

How do you feel about scooped-out bagels?
I used to eat them a lot, when I was crazy in the head. Back when I was younger, I did and then went, why am i doing this? Enjoy it. What's a bagel going to do to you? Nothing.

What's one item that's always in your refrigerator?
Goat's milk for my daughter, and there's always my macro food.

If you could ask Kim Kardashian any question, what would it be?

Who's your ideal drinking buddy, living or dead?
Keith Richards. I did have cocktails with him once many years ago, and it was a lot of fun.

If you were undead, would you be a vampire, zombie or ghost?
A vampire.

What happens in your recurring dream?
It usually has to do with me having to go on "Sweet Charity" and not knowing what the f-ck I'm doing -- not knowing the choreography and not knowing my lines. Usually, I wake up from that nightmare really panicky.

When do you lose your temper?
I don't lose it very often. Rude people make me lose my temper ... but then I don't lose my temper because I don't want to be rude either.

Will you let Sadie see your 1991 classic "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead"?
Someday. She does know what I do. The concept of it is weird to her, but when you say "what does mama do?" she says “she does acting.” I think I say the word "prick" in that, so that's probably a little old for her now.
