Darel Agerton Strangled Grandmother To Death Day After Being Released From Prison: Cops

Man Strangles Grandmother One Day After Prison Release: Cops

An Illinois man was released from prison only to be accused of beating and strangling his grandmother to death the very next day.

Darel C. Agerton, 38, is facing six counts of first-degree murder in the death of Veronica. R Shick, 90, Joliet Patch reports.

Agerton had been released from the Illinois Department of Corrections on Nov. 29, after spending 15 months in the slammer for his fourth DUI conviction, and was staying with his grandmother at her home in Joliet. The next day, he called 911, claiming that he had woken up from a nap and found the woman lying on the floor, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Police, however, say that Agerton beat his grandmother using both his hands and feet before strangling her to death.

He was taken into custody, and his bail was set at $5 million.

Five days ago, an Oregon man released from jail early due to budget cuts robbed a bank just 55 minutes after getting out.
