Nikki Haley Denies Colbert's Senate Bid On Facebook

Nikki Haley Dashes Stephen Colbert's Senate Dreams

Senator Stephen Colbert (R-SC) will not become a reality, thanks to South Carolina's buzzkill of a governor Nikki Haley, who denied Colbert's dream in a Facebook post Friday afternoon.

As soon as Jim DeMint announced he will vacate his Senate seat before the end of the year, speculation began that Colbert, a South Carolina native, would campaign to have Haley appoint him to fill the seat. Known for his stunt political campaigns (which, in the 2012 election, involved very real Super PAC money), Colbert was immediately and widely expected to flamboyantly court Haley's appointment.

On Thursday's "Colbert Report," he acknowledged the support and told his fans to tweet at Haley using the hashtag #SenatorColbert.

Alas, it was not meant to be. On Friday afternoon, Haley posted the following to her Facebook page:

Stephen, thank you for your interest in South Carolina's U.S. Senate seat and for the thousands of tweets you and your fans sent me.

But you forget one thing, my friend.

You didn't know our state drink. Big, big mistake.

Haley is referring to her own "Colbert Report" interview from last April, when Colbert failed to correctly remember that milk is the official drink of South Carolina. (In fairness, Haley didn't know that the state amphibian is the salamander.)

We can't imagine that Colbert will let this go easily, but it appears for now Haley is deadset against Stephen Colbert entering the U.S. Senate. All because of milk.
