UPDATE (6:43p.m.): Many Facebook users are reporting the social network is back up. We've reached out to Facebook to explain the cause of the outage and we'll update this story accordingly.

UPDATE (7:45p.m.): A Facebook spokesperson said in a statement: ""Earlier today we made a change to our DNS infrastructure and that change resulted in some people being temporarily unable to reach the site.
