How did the mainstream press miss the biggest story of the 2012 election? Norman J. Ornstein, political scientist and resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, talked to HuffPost Live host Abby Huntsman on Tuesday about the rightward lurch of the Republican Party and the media's failure to address it.
"We had a very different dynamic in our politics over the last four years than we'd seen before," Ornstein said of the GOP's intransigence. "We've simply seen a significant failure, and I think it's a systematic one on the part of mainstream media
because they hate to be accused of bias. So how do you avoid being accused of bias? You treat everyone as if they're all the same, and you bring them on in equal numbers."
As to ignoring facts in pursuit of balance, Ornstein said: "If that's what they teach in journalism schools, and it is, journalism schools need some revamping."
