Note: This holiday season, in lieu of a traditional holiday gift guide, we'll be featuring a different LGBT organization each day for our "30 Days Of LGBT Giving." Check back tomorrow for a look at another incredible group that's working tirelessly on behalf of the LGBT community.
On Halsted Street, in Chicago's Boystown enclave in the Lakeview neighborhood, among all the gay-friendly businesses sits the Center on Halsted, the Midwest's most comprehensive and largest community center that serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.
Every day, the center opens its doors and welcomes more than 1,000 community members who have access to the organization's multitude of resources and services, some of which include fun social activities like group volleyball games and cooking classes as well as much needed programs such as group therapy sessions and HIV testing.
Many of Chicago's neglected LGBT youth rely on the center's services and affirming, safe-space environment, especially during the holiday season. On Christmas Day, the Boystown mainstay will be hosting a free dinner for community members to celebrate.
