Todd Akin Campaign Debt Still Yet To Be Paid Off

More than a month after failing to secure a seat in the U.S. Senate, Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) is still plagued by lingering bills.

The Hill reports that Akin reached out to supporters in an email, asking for financial assistance.

"We still have a little ground to make up on our campaign debt retirement," he wrote. "I would be incredibly appreciative if you could click here to donate $5 or more today!"

Akin is not alone in his uphill bank-account battle. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) is still digging out from her expensive reelection campaign, with the Associated Press reporting that she owes about $238,000.

McCaskill defeated Akin by more than 15 percentage points in their November 2012 Senate race. She will begin serving her second term for Missouri in January 2013.
