This year has been a big one in the world of celebrity splits, with many of our favorite couples calling it quits.

  • Katie Holmes

    After <a href="">filing for divorce</a> in June, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise<a href=",,20623201,00.html"> finalized their split </a> in August 2012. In <a href=",,20645375,00.html">November</a>, Holmes began her <a href="">second stint</a> on Broadway in Theresa Rebeck's comedy "Dead Accounts," in which she plays a woman who <a href="">moves back in with her parents</a> after a breakup. Although the play opened to <a href="">less-than-stellar reviews</a>, the New York Times theater critic noted that the actress was <a href="">"much more at ease playing a worn-down country mouse"</a> than she was in Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" -- her Broadway debut -- back in 2008.

  • Heidi Klum

    Heidi Klum <a href="">filed for divorce</a> from Seal -- her <a href=",,20585077,00.html">husband of seven years</a> -- in April 2012. In August, the "Project Runway" judge and <a href="">mother of four</a> launched her <a href="">Truly Scrumptious</a> kids clothing line at Babies "R" Us in New York City. One month later, the collection for style-savvy tots became <a href="">available across the country.</a> Since the split, Klum has been <a href="">dating her bodyguard,</a> Martin Kirsten -- a relationship that she <a href="">confirmed back in September</a>. In a recent interview with German magazine Bunte, the model gushed that she is <a href=",,20646205,00.html">"in love"</a> with her new beau.

  • Russell Crowe

    Russell Crowe and Australian singer Danielle Spencer <a href="">called it quits in October</a> after nine years of marriage. Since the split, Crowe has been keeping busy with work. The actor is starring in the screen adaptation of the<a href=""> musical "Les Miserables"</a> alongside Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway that premieres on <a href="">Christmas Day</a>. He also began filming on a <a href=",,20641899,00.html">Noah's Ark movie</a> entitled "Noah," in which he plays the <a href=",,20641899,00.html">well-known biblical figure</a>.

  • Chad Johnson

    It's been a rough year for Chad Johnson. The football player <a href="">tied the knot</a> with "Basketball Wives" star Evelyn Lozada in July, but it was all downhill from there. Forty-one days later, Lozada <a href=",,20621087,00.html">filed for divorce</a> after an argument between the couple <a href="">turned violent</a>. Johnson reportedly <a href="">headbutted his then-wife</a> and was <a href="">arrested</a> following the domestic dispute. Soon after, the <a href="">Miami Dolphins terminated </a>the former NFL wide receiver's contract. In December, the athlete <a href="">formerly known as "Ochocinco"</a> told ESPN that he is <a href="">"going to play again." </a>

  • Amy Poehler

    In September, Amy Poehler and Will Arnett <a href="">announced their separation</a> after nine years of marriage. A month later, the "Parks and Recreation" actress was tapped to <a href="">host the 2013 Golden Globes </a>along with fellow "SNL" alum Tina Fey. In a statement, the <a href="">award show's executive producers</a> said of this year's emcees: “It’s exciting to have two of the most respected names in comedy. Amy and Tina’s well-known chemistry along with their spontaneity and glamour makes them a perfect fit for the Golden Globes.”

  • Peter Facinelli

    Peter Facinelli<a href=""> filed for divorce</a> from wife Jennie Garth in March 2012 after 11 years of marriage and <a href="">three children together</a>. In the fall, the actor was <a href="">busy doing a press circuit</a> to promote the final installment of the "Twilight" movies, in which he plays <a href="">Dr. Carlisle Cullen</a>. Late in November, Facinelli's post-split love life heated up when actress Jaimie Alexander <a href=",,20652384,00.html">confirmed to People magazine</a> that the pair were dating. "We've been friends forever and had a lot of mutual friends and we reconnected in the middle of the year," <a href=",,20652384,00.html">Alexander said</a>. "It was one of those things where I'd been single for a very long time and he was going through a lot. We sort of bonded."

  • Katy Perry

    Katy Perry and ex-hubby Russell Brand officially split on <a href="">Dec. 30, 2011</a> when the British funnyman <a href="">filed for divorce</a>; their split was <a href="">finalized this summer</a>. Since the divorce, Perry has prospered in her professional life; she was involved in Barack Obama's <a href="">re-election campaign</a> and even <a href="">performed at several of his big rallies</a>. Earlier this month, she accepted the honor of <a href="">Billboard's 2012 Woman of the Year</a> -- a title that has been previously held by successful artists like<a href=""> Beyonce</a> and <a href="">Taylor Swift</a>.
