This week in beauty we learned that Beyonce buys fur lashes "by the ton," that sea salt spray tames static-y hair and how to look our best when hungover -- it's safe to say our holidays just got a lot better.
We're shifting our focus to the red carpet, showcasing the best, worst and most interesting examples of hair, makeup and nails that we came across this week. Take a look, get inspired and vote for your faves!
BEST: Cate Blanchett
<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/13/cate-blanchett-style_n_812810.html#s252882&title=March_1994">Style chameleon</a> Cate Blanchett has definitely sported some daring (and <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/14/cate-blanchett-hair-love_n_611818.html">questionable</a>) haircuts in the past. We love the short little bob she's been rocking lately while doing the publicity rounds for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." At a premiere for the film on December 12th, she sported a simple updo with a pink pout that made her look as elegant as ever. Peach blush gave her an enviable glow, while a swipe of mascara made her eyes pop. Looking good, Cate!
Ke$ha <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/19/american-music-awards-2012-kesha-red-carpet-photos_n_2158112.html">cleaned up for the AMAs</a>, but the singer's<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/16/kesha-bmi-pop-music-awards-2012_n_1521188.html"> glam look</a> didn't last long. At the Power 96.1's Jingle Ball 2012 on December 12th, she was back to her old <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/19/kesha-hair_n_786096.html#s187029">asymmetrical hair styling</a> ways. We can't say we entirely get why she only has two corn rows, but hey, at least there's no <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/01/kesha-glues-golds-studs-shaved-head_n_1313395.html">studs</a> involved.
BEST: Katy Perry
The <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/13/katy-perry-ugly-christmas-sweater-photos_n_2291997.html?utm_hp_ref=style&ir=Style">ugly Christmas sweater coat</a> Katy Perry sported at the "A Christmas Story, The Musical" may have been a fashion miss, but her makeup was definitely on point. We love that she went for natural warm tones with brown eye shadow and light bronzer to contour her cheeks. And those lashes! If they're from her recent <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/07/katy-perry-false-eyelashes-photos_n_2251155.html">collection with Eylure</a>, we need to get a pair ASAP. It's definitely a big change from the candy colored looks she was rocking only a few months ago. We have to say that we're fans of the new Katy.
WORST: Miranda Lambert
<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/31/blake-shelton-miranda-lambert-married-150-days_n_2050236.html?utm_hp_ref=miranda-lambert">Glammed-up</a> singer <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/05/miranda-lamberts-store-pink-pistol_n_2077522.html?utm_hp_ref=miranda-lambert">Miranda Lambert</a> was off her A-game at the 2012 <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/11/american-country-awards-2012-red-carpet-fashion-photos_n_2276352.html">American Country Awards</a> on December 10th. Her hair looked over-processed and flat, even in an updo. She also went a little overboard on the <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/07/eyeshadow-brown-blue-green-eyes-video_n_946945.html">eye shadow</a> and mascara. We say it's time to put down the product and step away.
BEST: Kerry Washington
We don't think Kerry Washington <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/30/kerry-washington-birthday_n_1243798.html">ever has an off day</a>. The actress always looks<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/15/kerry-washington-elle-magazine_n_2136267.html"> stunning</a> on the <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/24/kerry-washington-emmys-2012_n_1909202.html">red carpet</a>, and her recent visit to The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on December 12th was no exception. Sporting simple makeup, her blunt<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/06/beyonce-bangs-hairstyle-photos_n_2077776.html?utm_hp_ref=bangs"> bangs</a> and shoulder length hair framed her face perfectly. She added a subtle pop of color with a peach lipstick; a gray smokey eye finished off the look.
WORST: Naomi Watts
<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/29/naomi-watts-elton-john-white-tie-tiara-ball_n_1636957.html">Fashion plate</a> Naomi Watts has landed our "<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/05/naomi-watts-fashion_n_1077739.html">Look of the Day</a>" title more times than we can count, but the actress looked a little lackluster at the "The Impossible" screening on December 12th. Although her makeup looked lovely, her unruly bangs caused this look to flop. We really wished she had used some product to smooth back her hair. Next time, Naomi!
BEST: Leslie Mann
Actress Leslie Mann attended the premiere of <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/27/this-is-40-trailer-paul-rudd_n_1459630.html">husband Judd Apatow's movie </a> "<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/26/this-is-40-feature-on-the-set-bodies-by-jason_n_2185283.html">This Is 40</a>" on December 12th with a girly look that made us smile. This funny lady is apparently also a fashion fan (we spotted her at <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/03/chanel-armani-couture_n_1647685.html">Chanel and Armani</a> during the couture season), and it shows. She sported a high pompadour updo that <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/14/karl-lagerfeld-skinny-models-interview-quotes-weight_n_1964978.html?utm_hp_ref=karl-lagerfeld">Karl Lagerfeld </a>would definitely approve of. She completed the look by adding an enviable winged eye. Work it, Leslie!
WORST: Melanie Brown
Melanie Brown is a total<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/13/melanie-brown-shows-off-post-baby-body-photos_n_959689.html"> hottie</a>, and, to be honest, she was always our favorite <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/12/12/spice-girls-musical-critics_n_2282130.html?utm_hp_ref=spice-girls">Spice Girl</a>. But her recent 'do at the Noble Gift Gala at The Dorchester was a little more scary than we would like. We've seen Brown pull off full-on zebra ensembles and crazy buns in the '90s, but this blown out Elvis-like pompadour was a look not even she could rock. Next time, Mel!
