A real-life Grinch may have ruined the holidays for hundreds of people.
A truck driver contracted by FedEx to make a delivery from the Kansas City FedEx terminal to the Papillion Post Office in Nebraska has apparently really dropped the ball -- or in this case hundreds of packages, KETV reports. 911 was notified when the driver was seen kicking roughly 435 packages onto a neighborhood street, a result, he told his employer, of panicking after realizing he accidentally left open the door to his truck.
"This behavior is not reflective of FedEx's commitment to provide exceptional customer service," FedEx spokesman David Westrick told The Huffington Post in an email. "We take these matters very seriously and are working closely with affected customers."
This isn't the first instance of some less-than-competent work on the part of delivery employees. Last year, a video of a FedEx worker tossing a computer monitor over a fence went viral, followed shortly by a similar incident perpetrated by a U.S. Postal Service worker.
FedEx may have some explaining to do on other fronts as well. A recent report claims the delivery service has "systematically" overcharged customers for years. It's not all bad for the delivery company though. FedEx appears on track for a record-setting holiday shipping season and has a nice little plan to boost profits over the next few years. So there's that.
By the way, only 31 of the missing packages have been successfully delivered. Those who may have lost a package because of the mishap should either contact FedEx or the retailer they ordered from.
