It seems as though MTV ended "Jersey Shore" at exactly the right time. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reality series' final episode drew only 3.1 million viewers in total, making it the least-watched finale in the history of the franchise.
While the episode was up in the ratings compared to prior installments, the finale dropped almost 2 million viewers compared to the sixth season premiere, which drew 4.7 million watchers back in October.
At its peak in 2011, the reality series was averaging around 8.5 million viewers and beating even ratings juggernaut "American Idol" in MTV's coveted 12-34 demo. 8.8 million people tuned in for its fourth season premiere.
MTV isn't bidding farewell to the "Shore" cast forever -- the second season of spinoff "Snooki and JWoww" premieres in January, along with "Buckwild," another raucous reality series focused on a group of friends, this time set in West Virginia (and already causing controversy).
Will you miss "Jersey Shore"?
