It's safe to say that 2012 was the year of natural hair.

The state and style of our hair has always been a hot topic for black women, but this year it was all about embracing, nurturing and/or transitioning to curly coifs.

Many called it a movement and based on the countless bloggers, vloggers, curl connoisseurs and products that popped up in 2012 that's a pretty safe assumption. Even celebs started embracing their au naturale manes. Who can forget the moment Viola Davis stepped out at the Oscars rocking her TWA (teeny weeny afro)? And Solange Knowles' marvelous mane gave use plenty to swoon about this year, even if she was a reluctant Team Natural captain.

Check out the slideshow below for the biggest natural hair stories of the year. Are you ready for the movement to continue or are you hoping it stays in 2012? Happy New Year, everyone!
