Fantasia Barrino Sounds Off On Anti-Gay Instagram Controversy

Fantasia Responds To Anti-Gay Instagram Controversy

Fantasia Barrino is clarifying her words after some perceived an Instagram comment she posted to be an anti-gay rant.

The 28-year-old singer now says her remarks were "taken out of context," according to the Hollywood Reporter, and that she doesn't "judge anyone."

"The gay community is one of my largest supporters," she is quoted as saying. "I support the gay community as they support me. Bloggers please stop misrepresenting the facts."

Barrino's remarks are similar to those made by the "American Idol" alum's management, who said in earlier statement the singer "is not now, nor has she ever been an opponent of the LGBT community." That statement also noted, "She has supported and performed at numerous events that are sponsored by the LGBT community. Whether it’s through a live performance or placement on social media, Ms. Barrino uses every opportunity to reach out and connect with her fans, all of her fans.”

Earlier this week, Barrino curiously posted the following underneath a photo of her striking a dancer's pose:

"I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERNMENT THE church House... Everybody Trying!!!!!!! Its a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! I'm not doing Nothing for you... My Life!!!!"

As Towleroad noted, it was unclear exactly what judgment Barrino was originally referring to.
