If Samuel Beckett were alive today, he'd probably name his most famous play "Waiting for Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos" instead of "Waiting for Godot."
We've been hearing reports about the imminent release of the second flavor of the wildly popular Doritos Locos tacos for a whopping eight months now. Sure enough, they've been spotted in Taco Bell locations in Southern California. Heck, Cool Ranch isn't even the only flavor besides Nacho Cheese that we've heard about -- Foodbeast got a taste of a Doritos Flamas Doritos Locos Taco in June. But they still haven't made it to locations around the country.
A little flurry of social media missives sent out by Taco Bell on Wednesday night, though, teases the possibility that the Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos could finally go national this year. Take this Tweet, for example:
That looks like a fairly strong hint that the Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Taco release date will fall sometime in the next 12 months. That's certainly how many in the food media are taking it.
Then again, when we posted on this issue back in April, a spokesman told us that the chain would be releasing the Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Taco "later this year" -- that is, in 2012. So there's really no telling how long we'll be waiting.
