Not a lot of people love musicals, but I certainly am not one of them. Music, dancing, costumes, the story – it’s all magic, and when it’s Mary Poppins, it’s TRUE magic.
If you love musicals, too, go see the hit Broadway musical Mary Poppins at the Adrienne Arsht Center this week. How lucky we are to have these amazing touring shows stop right here in Miami -- and for the price of what you would spend at the movies (with popcorn and all those extras). Tickets start as low as $26!
I had a chance to have met a few of the cast members: Madeline Trumble who plays Mary Poppins, Con o’Shea-Creal who plays Bert and our hometown girl, Tonya Thompson who plays Mrs. Corry. They taught me a little on how to spell out and do the word that everyone leaves the theater singing, "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." (Story continues below.)
Media is usually scattered in the audience on opening night but Tonya Thompson wasn’t worried about them. She had a special guest in the audience and wanted to make sure her performance went flawlessly. "It was so lovely cause my mom hadn’t seen me perform in a while, so having her come to see this, this is like the highlight in my career."
Tonya, you made your mother proud. You were amazing.
In Miami, Mary Poppins will play through Saturday evening at 8 p.m. with a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. Performances on Sunday, January 6th are at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tickets ($26 and up) are available at the Adrienne Arsht Center Box Office, online at arshtcenter.org and over the phone at 305-949-6722.
