Ed Werder Mocks Andy Reid's Weight On SportsCenter, Apologizes On Twitter (VIDEO)

Reporter Mocks Andy Reid's Weight

From his firing in Philadelphia to his recruitment by other teams, Andy Reid has been mentioned a lot on ESPN over the past several days. But amidst all the reports -- the latest by Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen indicating that the veteran coach has agreed to a contract with the Chiefs -- there was one moment that generated attention for all the wrong reasons.

On Friday, respected NFL reporter Ed Werder poked fun at Reid's ample waistline while reporting that Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and now-former K.C. general manager Scott Pioli had left Philadelphia to return to Kansas City without the former Eagles coach.

"Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and his delegation that includes GM Scott Pioli has actually left Philadelphia and return to Kansas City without Andy Reid in tow," said Werder. "Now I don't know if that's because Andy Reid might put the plane over its weight limit, but there's no apparent breakdown in the deal. The expectation still is that Andy Reid is going to be the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs."

Shortly after making the report, Werder took to Twitter to apologize for the joke.

In his Twitter profile, Werder describes himself as an "ESPN reporter with sense of humor seldom revealed on TV." Given the awkwardness of this attempt, his sense of humor may be even more seldom seen in the future.
