Free Tuition Colleges: U.S. News And World Report List

To anyone concerned about the rising cost of college, it may be comforting to know that there are still tuition-free schools out there, according to U.S. News and World Report.

The downside: most are highly specialized. Some require labor in exchange for free tuition, and others come with years of military service that not everyone is up for.

U.S. News recently scanned the country for the last of this rare breed, and had this to say about them:

Some of the schools that don't charge tuition are quite small, many require some form of service, and a few have strict eligibility guidelines. Most still charge room, board, and other fees, so they're not completely free, notes Pamela Rambo, founder of the education-focused Rambo Research and Consulting firm.

"It is a big savings, but it's not for everybody," she notes. "There are lots of ways to look at going to college for less money."
