In 2009, six months after marrying longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko, David Letterman, the host of the "Late Show with David Letterman," became entangled in a public sex scandal. He came clean and admitted to his wife and his viewers that he’d had sex with female staff members.

Three years later, Letterman sits down for a rare interview with Oprah Winfrey for "Oprah’s Next Chapter" and opens up about the state of his marriage. He says that telling his wife about his affairs was "the most difficult."

"Did you have to sleep on the couch?" Oprah asks him in this clip.

"I slept a wide variety of places," he says.

Letterman says that after he admitted to his wife that he'd been unfaithful, he wasn’t sure whether she would stay with him. He also says that to this day, he’s still trying to make things better in their marriage.

"I'm still trying to fix it," he says.

Watch the interview in its entirety on "Oprah's Next Chapter," Sunday, Jan. 6 at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.

Correction: A previous version of this post stated that Letterman married in 1999. He married in 2009.
