The Journal News published an interactive map listing thousands of pistol permit-holders in Westchester/Rockland counties, and lit a storm of controversy. New York State Senator Greg Ball joined HuffPost Live host Marc Lamont Hill to speak about his opposition to the list's publication.
"People have to understand that while this information is publicly accessible, we're talking about people who obey the law," Ball said, including "many victims of domestic violence who got a permit to protect themselves." The senator argued that the publication of the list endangers those vulnerable people, as "this interactive map can now be used by those who seek to hurt people, and has created a public safety nightmare."
Also joining the full discussion were Washington Post opinion writer Erik Wemple, Ian Millihiser from the Center for American Progress, and Joanne Wallenstein, who has written in support of the Journal News publishing the list.
