New Orleans is going to have one busy February. Not only is the city hosting the Super Bowl on February 3 (for the 10th time in the game's 47-year history,) but days later Mardi Gras kicks off.
For the third year in a row, Better Than Ezra (yes, the 90s band) will host its Krewe of Rocckus, a three-day celebration of all things New Orleans food and music. “We found a lot of fans have never been to Mardi Gras or New Orleans so we created a Mardi Gras Krewe of our own for the fans to experience the Carnival season with us as their personal hosts,” Kevin Griffin, lead singer of Better Than Ezra, has said of the event. “We love New Orleans and wanted to show the very best the city has to offer."
The band was originally based in New Orleans (they met at LSU) and now has the Better Than Ezra Foundation aimed at perserving New Orleans' cultural history. Band members now live amongst Nashville, New Orleans and Los Angeles, but come back to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. As part of the party, participants will have access to parade viewing stands on St. Charles Avenue (with an open bar and food); a Second Line parade; an open-bar riverboat cruise with a performance by Emerson Hart of Tonic (again, yes, that 90s band;) and two nights of concerts by Better Than Ezra, Sister Hazel (need we say it?) and others.
While the Krewe of Rocckus hotels package has sold out, the event still has a "no hotel" package, which starts at $649; there are also day packages on Friday and Saturday starting at around $200.
