Oscar nominations for 2013 were announced this morning, and this is clearly a great year for book adaptations.
Five of the nine Best Picture nominations are book adaptations.
Silver Linings Playbook, David O. Russell's adaptation of Matthew Quick's novel, is actually the only film to be nominated for the Big Five this year (nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and screenplay, either Best Adapted Screenplay or Best Original Screenplay). If you haven't seen it yet, we suggest that you do (at the very least so you can weigh in on a film that everyone is talking about).
For those who haven't read/seen the books/movies nominated this year, get cracking! You've still got a little over a month to catch up. Oscar night is Sunday, February 24.
What do you think about the nominations this year? Did any book adaptations from 2012 get snubbed? Do you prefer the book or the movie for each of the book adaptation nominations? Let us know in the comments!
