Another "American Idol" offspring is on the way, as former judge Kara DioGuardi confirmed to People magazine on Wednesday that she'll finally have a little one of her own.

DioGuardi and husband Mike McCuddy will have a baby via gestational surrogate, meaning the child's genetics will be made up of both DioGuardi's egg and McCuddy's sperm. The couple has struggled with fertility issues since their marriage in 2009. They endured multiple failed in vitro fertilization attempts and have since explored alternative ways to have a child.

Their efforts will pay off in the weeks to come, when their son Greyson James Carroll McCuddy is born.

"We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate," DioGuardi told People. "I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked.”

DioGuardi called her surrogate a "gem," saying she has given her and McCuddy "this incredible gift."

After hosting Seasons 8 and 9 of "American Idol," DioGuardi served as the head judge on Bravo's music competition show "Platinum Hit" and portrayed Roxie Hart in the popular Broadway musical "Chicago." She recently taught a course titled "Hitmaking with Kara DioGuardi" at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and has written songs for Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, among others.
