Serena Williams is having a rough 2013 Australian Open. Not because she's playing poorly (she has only lost two games out of her two matches). But she has hurt herself in both matches.
Coming off a first-round shutout win in which she injured her right ankle, the 15-time Grand Slam champion accidentally hit herself in the face with her racquet.
In the middle of her match against Garbine Muguruza Blanco in the second round, Williams ran across the baseline and tried to return a tough shot. Her racquet came up and caught her in the mouth as she followed through.
She stopped briefly to make sure she was okay and quickly resumed play.
"I'm beating myself up. I don't know why. I love myself," she said after beating Blanco in straight sets, via Tennis.com.
