Hand Sanitizer Dildo Ad: Just A Few Degrees of Separation From Ewww

For many of us, hand sanitizer provides protection against those we touch who picked their nose, grabbed a subway pole or used the potty without washing.

But this Dettol hand sanitizer ad, by Havas Worldwide in Chile, offers one possibility we may not have thought about: We may be just a few handshakes away from someone who recently played with sex toys.

Any marketing that features a dildo is bound to get attention, but associating a dildo with a sanitary product takes cojones and creativity, noted a few adland observers.

Said BuzzFeed's Copyranter: "Give it all the awards."

"Good idea and art. Product benefit is clear," wrote one commenter at Ads of the World.

Meanwhile, AdWeek poked fun at the different priorities conveyed in the message.

"Hand sanitizer is flying off the shelves in the U.S. because of the flu outbreak," the trade publication wrote. "In Chile, they're worried about more subversive germs."
