Get ready to feel your years: "Ignition (Remix)" was released 10 years ago, on Jan. 22, 2003.
R. Kelly's seminal hit begins with the crooner telling us that he "usually doesn't do this," but remixing "Ignition" was undoubtedly his best career move. The song continues to be a mainstay, from the radio to the nightclub. Oddly enough, many people attest to never having heard the original version of the song. To disabuse you of this ignorance, we've included both the original (below) and the remix (above). New listeners may be surprised at the frank sexuality of the original. (No, Kels isn't actually talking about turning on a motor vehicle.)
Billboard's website says the song never charted, but we're pretty sure it peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 chart. Take our word for it, and impress fellow music fans by reminding them that the song never hit No. 1.
Let us know if you have any poignant memories of listening to the decade-old jam in the comments section.
