As Denise Richards mourns the death of her beloved French Bulldog, Hank, fans of the actress have been reaching out with words of comfort.

As USA Today notes, Richards took to Twitter on Tuesday to share the sad news with her 2.4 million followers:

Fans were quick to offer their condolences to the 41-year-old former model and mother of three. Richards later thanked her supporters for their kind words:

As OnTheRedCarpet.com notes, Richards had developed a very close bond to Hank over the years. The pet lover even appeared on a magazine cover with her pooch. Richards and Hank, along with her other dogs, were also featured in an episode of National Geographic Channel series "The Dog Whisperer."

Richards, who often volunteers at animal shelters, is a "longtime advocate for animal rights," Us Magazine reports. Case in point: In the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, the former Bond girl reportedly showed her support for local relief efforts by adopting a puppy while in Long Island, N.Y.

“When I was little, I swear I brought home every stray dog, hoping my parents would let me keep it,” she wrote on an iVillage blog last year, according to the Daily Mail. "When I first started acting I would help at shelters... One of the many causes near and dear to my heart is animal rescue."
