University Of Virginia College At Wise Gunman Scare: Campus Locked Down

A gunman has reportedly been spotted on the University of Virginia's College at Wise campus, prompting a college-wide lockdown, according to the school's webiste.

Two updates have been posted to the site:

9:28pm - The college is currently in a lockdown due to an alleged gunman on campus. Find a safe place and stay put! Lock all doors until further notice!

10:08pm - Lock down continues. Alleged gunman on campus. Stay put, lock all doors until further notice!

Students have reportedly received the same warnings via recorded message, according to NBC 12. The Wise County Sheriff's Department has indicated they will release more information to the press as it comes in.

Wise County Commonwealth Attorney Ron Elkins tweeted the following:

FYI at college campus. Campus is on lockdown. No known shots fired. Law enforcement has scene secured. Please do not call dispatch.

UPDATE: The lockdown has been lifted, according to the College at Wise's website.

Elkins has tweeted that the gunman sighting was a "hoax."
