It's so easy to overeat. Between the super-sized servings we receive at restaurants to the common habit of eating while distracted by the television, it can be hard to maintain good habits when it comes to portion control. But research into our eating behavior shows that there are actually a number of easy ways to curb mindless eating.

Most recently, a study published in PloS One found that the simple act of taking smaller sips (and, they extrapolated, perhaps smaller bites) could reduce overall consumption by as much as 30 percent. But that's not all -- from vibrating forks to colorful plates, here are six ways you can trick yourself into eating less at dinner tonight.
