An angry father of a high school student in Washington state has been banned from two school districts after posting what police called "alarming" comments to his Facebook page.
Jeff Berni, 39, is the father of a student basketball player for Skyview High School in the Vancouver School District. Skyview beat rival Camas High School 44-42 during a game Tuesday, according to The Oregonian. But Berni reportedly got in an argument with the opposing fans while leaving the game -- and posted a message to Facebook:
Camas fans!!!!! Worst in the league!!!! I hope someone shoots up their school really soon!!!!!!!!!!
“He flipped kids off. He had some negative reaction [about the game]," Camas School District Athletic Director Josh Gibson told KATU. “Exactly what is said, we don’t know.”
Concerned parents and students who saw the Facebook post called police to report the incident. Berni is forbidden from Camas School District and Vancouver School District property, The Oregonian reports.
Berni has since apologized, calling his actions "stupid," and won't face charges because his actions "did not reach the level of criminal action," Camas Police Sgt. Scott Boyles told KGW.
Schools across the country are still on high alert as parents nervously sent their children back to class after last month's attack at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. Districts nationwide have tightened security measures and increased campus patrols, and hypersensitivity to any unusual activity or perceived threats have already resulted in numerous lockdowns and punitive measures.
“I think when you look at the things that have been going on recently with shootings, I think that it’s just unfortunate that a comment like that is thrown out,” Gibson told KATU. “There’s an emotional response to it.”
